Photochemical Alchemy with Plants Workshop CANCELLED

In the best interest of our community, Mildura Arts Centre in consultation with Sam Nightingale have come to the difficult decision to cancel the Photochemical Alchemy with Plants with Sam Nightingale, which was scheduled for Saturday 2 May 2020 as a precautionary measure to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community, and protect staff, workshop participants and the facilitator.
We thank you for your understanding in these challenging times.

This hands-on workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to learn how to make experimental photochemical images using the internal chemistry of local plants, river water and salt.
During the workshop, participants will work directly with botanical matter from the Mildura area as ingredients to make abstract photochemical images. Participants will learn how to activate a plant’s capacity to create images by using a simple organic solution in combination with a photosensitive surface. The workshop will also introduce the long-standing relationship between photography and alchemy, drawing on historical and contemporary examples from art and science.
No prior photography skills required.
The workshop is led by Sam Nightingale, a visual artist and researcher based in the UK. Sam is fascinated by the Mallee and repeatedly returns to the area to make artworks. In his practice, Sam uses experimental modes of photographic image-making to explore the connections between history, ecology and the image.
