Mark Dober

The watercolours in Mark Dober’s exhibition, Vineyard, were made on site in the Mallee landscape, the largest made at an abandoned vineyard at Cardross, on the fringes of Mildura.

Water is a key determinant of land use in this region. The politics of water – its availability for competing purposes – is an ongoing issue of great importance for residents, farmers, and the nation alike. Vineyard can be viewed as a metaphor for this issue.
While the motif is melancholic, Dober has sought to immerse the viewer in the beauty of watercolour painting. His message is one of engagement and hope.
