Unseen Connections

Lyn McDonald

The art of collage involves deconstructing, reconstructing juxtaposing and combining images to reveal powerful compositions - images that may or may not make rational sense to the viewer. Confronted with piles of old magazines and previous artworks that were about to go in the cycling bin I began to go through them, ripping out images that made a connection or had an aesthetic appeal. As I spread it all out I began to make connections. It was my intention to create a narrative around a central figure in each work but I soon realised that the selection of the images and subjects make the collective works a strong statement of people and events that have influenced me and make me the person I am today.
